Aaron S. Taylor, MS, ATC - Coordinator of Sports Medicine Outreach


Aaron is the Coordinator of Sports Medicine Services and will be entering his 19th year for providing Sports Medicine services
to Pittsylvania County High Schools. He has been working at Spectrum Medical (formally Danville Orthopedic Clinic) since 2007.  

Aaron is a nationally Certified Athletic Trainer since 2002 and state licensed by Virginia and North Carolina. He graduated from 
Davis & Elkins College with a BS degree in Physical Education and Health and attained his Master’s degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia University. He works mostly in physical therapy but also assists in orthopedics. Aaron has multiple certifications for Functional Movement Systems, Functional Capacity Evaluations, and was an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI)  for Averett University Athletic Training Program. His interests are in functional rehabilitation, concussions, and sport performance wit h specific attention to throwing mechanics. He plans on attaining a certification in Functional Dry Needling.

Since 2004, Aaron has been the President of the S.P.O.R.T. Foundation, a nonprofit 501 (c)(3), that helps provide funding and assistance for the Sports Medicine Outreach Program to the Pittsylvania County and Danville City Schools athletic programs. He maintains a lot of useful information for sports medicine outreach on the S.P.O.R.T. Foundation’s website  www.sport-foundation.com. Aaron enjoys spending time with his wife, Whitney, and his son Seth.​​

Alison Waymouth, ATC - PRN

Alison has been an Athletic Trainer for 11 years and loves it just as much as when she started. She has been supporting our Spectrum Medical Sports Medicine Outreach efforts for several years. She loves the energy of a sideline and the passion people put into the sports they play and love. Alison enjoys the opportunity to be involved in our local school systems and support the students within them. She currently works for Hughes Center in administration. Alison enjoys taking trips and living life. 

Thomas Underwood, MS, ATC - PRN

Thomas is joining our staff on a more regular basis this year. He moved to Averett University faculty in June 2022 while he also will be serving as Sports Medicine and Operations Administrator. Thomas previously served as Averett's Assistant Director of Athletics/Director of Sports Medicine since May 2022. Underwood became Averett's Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer in July 2014.

Thomas is a 2008 graduate of Averett University with a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine. He also had the opportunity to intern with the Green Bay Packers the summer of 2008. Prior to joining Averett's training staff, he worked at Guilford Orthopedic Clinic in Greensboro, N.C. Underwood currently resides in Danville with his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Colton and Collins. 

Madison Mitchell, ATC – Full Time Staff


We are excited to introduce a new member of our team this year. She is a new graduate and has a lot of energy. Madi is from West Orange, NJ. She went to Liberty University and graduated with her BS degree in Athletic Training. Some of her favorite things to do involve reading, working out, watching horror and marvel movies, eating food, and of course…watching sports! Madi will be working in orthopedics at Spectrum Medical while providing outreach services for Pittsylvania County High Schools.

Brad Hylton, DPT - PRN

Brad is a Licensed Physical Therapist at Spectrum Medical. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Lynchburg College in 2018, where he also played baseball. In 2021, Brad earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Lynchburg. Brad is a graduate of Tunstall High School. His interests include general orthopedics, manual therapy, sports medicine, and ergonomics. He plans to complete certifications in dry needling, manual therapy, and ergonomics. In his spare time, Brad enjoys hunting and playing recreational sports.​

Brandon Owen, ATC - PRN

Brandon has been a certified athletic trainer for ­11 years. He has been working in orthopedics at Spectrum Medical for ­­7 years. He is the Athletic Trainer that covers George Washington High School. He will be providing support during the winter and spring seasons for Pittsylvania County Schools. Brandon is a graduate of Averett University in ­2010 and George Washington High School in 2004. He was previously employed at Functional Movement Systems and Hargrave Military Academy. Brandon enjoys playing golf, working out, and playing with his kids. 

Sports Medicine Outreach Services

Amber Triplett Corns, MS, ATC - PRN

Amber is a certified and licensed athletic trainer in the state of Virginia that worked full-time with Spectrum Medical for 2 years. She has recently taken a new position at Martinsville High School. Her work has been focused on giving back to my communities. She grew up in Patrick and Henry County, always volunteering her summers with local nursing homes and later working summer football with her high school Athletic Trainer. She is a graduate of Patrick County High school in 2016. From there she went straight into college and got her Bachelor’s in Athletic Training with a minor in biology in 2019. Then. Amber went to Liberty University online for one full year to earn a Master’s in Human Performance with a concentration in Fitness and wellness graduating in August of 2020. Currently, she is still living in Henry County and love to go on long hikes with our Siberian Husky and read when I get the chance. Amber’s next goal is to be certified teaching Basic Life support and hydrate testing for wrestling.
